From 24 to 29 October, 2006, Hof will once again be
turned into movie city – this year more so than
ever, for the Hof International Film Festival is celebrating
its fortieth anniversary. Founded in 1967 by festival
director Heinz Badewitz and friends as a matinée
screening, it has evolved to become one of the most
important meeting places for the German movie scene.
|
In hommage to the past 39 years, the festival will show again
more than a dozen movies screened in Hof; there will also
be a special book about the history of the festival. And of
course the retrospective’s filmmakers will be present
to celebrate the big “4O”.
However, as always, it’s every bit as important for
Heinz Badewitz and the festival in general to look ahead:
Approximately 80 films from Germany, Europe, and other countries
will be introduced to the audience as German premieres.
As the programme catalogue won’t be printed till shortly
before the festival begins, the suspense which films will
be screened in Hof can be enjoyed for a little while longer.
This year, the Hof Film Festival will start a day earlier
than usual with an opening screening on Tuesday night in the
Scala Theatre. Wednesday will be a normal festival day with
screenings starting early afternoon.
"When people ask me what part of filmmaking
I like best, I always tell them "Going to the film festivals".
When I´m thinking about film festivals, I always think
of Hof..."
Jack Sholder
